Congratulations to Roeper Stage IV second year student Ta’Teyanna Williford for her recent nomination to the Piston’s Academy annual “Player of the Year” award program.

Ta’Teyanna plays year round with the Pistons’ Academy and, at times, plays on more than one team for the organization. She also attends all of their optional workshops.

Piston’s Academy Coaches nominate players based on heart, hustle, leadership on and off the court; dedication to the sport; and making an impact in the game. Ta’Teyanna was the youngest player to receive such honors out of four nominees, selected from a pool of 200 candidates.

While she didn’t win the overall Player of the Year award, this nomination is a huge honor and speaks to the type of player and — more importantly – the type of person she is.

Roeper Elementary Girls’ Basketball coach Laura Evans shared that as a first year player on the team, Ta’Teyanna didn’t even have the confidence to play the first half of that season. “After a lot of convincing, she finally agreed to play and now she is an award winning player! To me that’s what Roeper sports is all about. Helping our kids believe in themselves.”
