Volleyball Season Ends on a Winning Note

The 2020 Roeper volleyball season wrapped up with a program-wide fun night.  Players from the Varsity, JV and MS participated in drills and scrimmages.  Lead by our amazing volleyball coaches; Emma Hegel-Kissinger, Talon Bialik-Cheng, Barbara Lasecki-Webb and Susannah Nichols, Roughrider volleyball players practiced and trained throughout the season.  Due to COVID-19 precautions, Roeper did not compete in matches against other schools.  That did not stop the coaches from giving the athletes much needed emotional and physical outlets.

“I feel so lucky that we were able to have a season at all” said varsity coach Emma Hegel-Kissinger.  “COVID-19 has made 2020 a year of ups and downs and forced us to reflect on our priorities” Hegel-Kissinger added, “My heart breaks for my seniors, that didn’t get to compete. In some ways, I think having a practice season has strengthened our team and program in a way that will change Roeper volleyball for the better”.

During the season, our Roeper athletes showed their dedication with many expressing the belief that volleyball practice was the very thing they looked forward to every day.  By creating a safe environment to play in many students enjoyed the ability to work on fundamentals, be part of a team and to have fun with their friends.  Sixth grader Hope Carmona adds, “the protocols in place made me feel it was a safe place, from temperature checks to everybody wearing masks and respecting distancing.”

The Roeper Athletic Department is committed to providing a safe, meaningful and enjoyable sport season for all our programs.  We will adhere to all the protocols for COVID-19, while allowing our students to grow, work and improve their skills.  Thank you to the entire volleyball coaching staff for the exemplary job done during this unique season.
